REPORTS TO: Administrator
LOCATION: Convalescent Center; Nespelem, Washington
Basic Functions: The Director of Nursing DNS is responsible for the overall management of the nursing department, to plan, organize, develop, and direct the overall operation of the Nursing Services Department of the Convalescent Center in accordance with all current, federal, state, and local standards, guidelines and regulations governing the facility and as directed by the Nursing Home Administrator to ensure the highest degree of quality care is maintained at all times.
Minimum Qualifications
Education and Training:
Requires an active license to practice as a Register Nurse in the State of Washington.
Requires a minimum of twenty-four (24) months of successful work experience as a supervisor in a long-term-care facility or other related health care facility.
Requires a valid Washington State Drivers License and be eligible for the Tribes vehicle insurance and be maintained throughout your duration of employment.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Requires the knowledge of nursing and medical practices and procedures, as well as laws, regulations and guidelines that pertain to long-term care.
Requires the knowledge in initial interview process for potential admissions to ensure facility readiness to provide adequate quality care.
Requires knowledge in budget preparation for a nursing department as well as monitoring of expenditures appropriate with Federal and State guidelines.
Requires the ability to maintain inventory in nursing supplies and equipment and replace as necessary.
Requires the ability to monitor medication, administration and treatment schedules to ensure that resident medications are being administered as ordered and treatments are carried out as order by physicians.
Requires the ability to develop and/or revise, as necessary, policies and procedures for the nursing department.
Requires the ability to plan, organize, direct, supervise and evaluate all nursing services provided in the facility.
Requires the ability to be creative and innovative in staff management to ensure consistent quality care.
Requires the ability to determine staffing levels for a nursing department as well as facilitate the hiring process including evaluation, training and discipline as necessary.
Requires the ability to ensure that all NACs and Licensed Nurses’ credentials are verified through the appropriate State Nursing Registry as well as reporting of adverse personnel actions relative to NAC and Nursing staff.
Requires the ability to coordinate the required medical director meetings and quality assurance standards.
Requires the ability to provide value based leadership by example, demonstrating credibility, discipline, follow through, consistency, and strong team orientation.
Requires the ability to ensure compliance with all required physician services.
Requires the ability to adapt work schedules as needed, attend trainings, and ability to be on-call 24 hours/day.
Note: Pursuant to Tribal Policy, if this position is safety sensitive it is subject to pre-employment drug testing.
In addition, pursuant to Tribal Policy, this position is subject to reasonable suspicion and post-accident drug testing.

If required of this position, you must possess and maintain a valid Washington State driver’s license and be eligible for the Tribes’ Vehicle Insurance.
In addition, this position may be subject to pre-employment background clearances.
If applicable, these clearances must be maintained throughout employment.
